Tazsa Garrett-Hammett is a dynamic guard/forward known for her scoring ability and versatility on the court. A native of LaGrange, Georgia, Tazsa made her mark at Springwood High School, where she developed into a star athlete before transitioning to collegiate basketball and then to professional play in Ireland.
Tazsa played for Coach Rick Johnson at Springwood High School in Alabama, where she quickly garnered attention for her exceptional talent. She earned AISA Player of the Year honors during both her junior and senior seasons and was a pivotal player in leading her team to an impressive 30-0 record and a state championship in her junior year. Averaging 15.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, she solidified her place as one of the best players in the state. In her senior season, Tazsa elevated her game even further, averaging 23.1 points and 12.3 rebounds, propelling Springwood to the state semi-finals. She received multiple accolades, including being named a three-time Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State selection and the Opelika-Auburn News All-Area Player of the Year. Throughout her high school career, she showcased her all-around game with averages of 3.0 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 2.0 steals, while shooting an impressive 56% from the field.
After high school, Tazsa transitioned to University of West Alabama where in 2017-18, Tazsa made an immediate impact as a freshman, starting 27 of 29 games and averaging 14.4 points per game. Her impressive work ethic earned her the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year award, and she was named to the GSC Women’s Basketball All-Tournament Team. In 2018-19, building on her success, she started in 19 of 25 games and averaged 14.7 points, along with 6.0 rebounds. Tazsa’s ability to perform in clutch moments was evident, highlighted by a season high of 22 points in a notable victory over Auburn Montgomery. In 2019-20, Tazsa continued to shine, starting all 26 games and leading her team with 421 total points. She averaged 16.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, and her standout performances included six double-doubles. Her consistent all-around play earned her a spot on the UWA Women’s Basketball Team of the Decade. In 2020-21, Tazsa's final collegiate season was marked by further excellence; she started in 17 games and averaged 17.4 points per game. Her impressive stats, including leading the team in both scoring and blocks, affirmed her position as a key player. She was named to the 2021 All-Gulf South Conference West Division Team, capping her college career on a high note.
In 2022-2023, Tazsa took her game overseas to Romania, before in 2023-2024 returning to play professionally for the Tolka Rovers in Ireland. In her debut season, she averaged an impressive 17.3 points per game, shooting 55% from the floor. Demonstrating her versatility, Tazsa also averaged 9.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals, proving her ability to impact the game on both ends of the court.
