Beginning with an impressive career at Fisk University spanning from 1987 to 1992, Coach Garner left an indelible mark on the court with remarkable achievements.

During the 1991-1992 season, Coach Garner achieved a spectacular feat by scoring an exceptional 603 points, averaging an impressive 24.3 points per game, ranking him 9th out of 57 players. His total career points at Fisk University amounted to 1,203, securing him the 8th spot out of 14 top career-scoring leaders. Not only did Coach Garner excel in scoring, but he also dominated in rebounding. He set records as the all-time season rebounding leader during the 1991-1992 season with an astounding 410 total rebounds, averaging 16.2 rebounds per game, standing as the #2 in Division III in the country. Additionally, achieving 22 rebounds against Lane College and 20 rebounds versus Centre College further solidified his prowess in the game. Transitioning to his professional career, Coach Garner took his talents abroad to Luxembourg and Israel, making a mark with his skills in Division II teams. His stint in the International Basketball Association with the Fargo-Moorhead Beez saw him instrumental in clinching the IBA Championship, showcasing his versatility on the court with solid scoring and rebounding stats.

Noteworthy contributions in the Continental Basketball Association with the Oklahoma City Calvary culminated in a championship win in the 1996-1997 season. Coach Garner's resilience and commitment shone through, even during challenging times such as coming back to Calvary after being released and battling through injuries. In the United States Basketball League, Coach Garner continued to shine, displaying his scoring ability and dominance in rebounding.
